April 17th has come and gone. It was a good tax season with a few glitches and some interesting developments. There were the early season refund problems but the new MeF electronic filing systems worked well (even if they clogged the downstream systems and delayed refunds again). Then there was the whole matter of Instant Tax Service.
Here at the office the biggest problem was the number of people who were not prepared. Some days it seemed that every return had to be put aside until the client could round up the info they forgot or had an issue to research. Then there was the last minute run. I’ve never seen that before. So, I have about 12 returns for various years and entities that can be worked on. I also have office work and filing to catch up as well as some bookkeeping to finish.
I will blog more. I have a bunch of stuff to write about and I’m sure more ideas will be coming in daily.
After 3+ months running on adrenaline and chocolate, I spent the weekend sleeping. I did get out and run errands and took a short road trip. I want a longer trip away from the office but I think I’ll wait until I have these returns caught up. I don’t want the thought of a pile of work waiting to mar a vacation.
So, I’m off to work on returns and finish some bookkeeping. But it’s off season, the music is louder, my shoes are off and I may take a break to read something that doesn’t have to do with taxes.

I have never had an April like I had this year....
I was totally unprepared for those that made the last minute run in....
