Another phishing scam saying that the IRS will give you money.
This one appears to come from the Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Service (and has a .mil e-mail address.) It targets people who are receiving VA disability compensation. The e-mail states that they may qualify for additional funds from the IRS. To apply, the taxpayer is required to send documentation to a Florida address. The scammers use the info in the VA awards letters or tax returns to steal the victim’s identity and withdraw money from their accounts or take out loans or credit cards in their name.
The IRS does not send unsolicited e-mails or request personal or financial info like PINs and passwords from tax payers.
