Just when I thought my opinion of Congress couldn't get any lower, the House had another vote on repealing "Obamacare". Depending on who you read, it was the 31st to 33rd attempt. It was done even when they know the Senate probably won't pass the bill and if they did, the President will veto. Why waste the time when there is so much work they could be doing?
Kay Bell (Don't Mess With Taxes) explains several reasons for the house vote including campaign material. But her post title highlights a reason I hadn't thought about; Killing Obamacare Means Better Healthcare Benefits for Members of Congress. When a member of Congress (and their aides) retires from Congress, they currently get to continue their federal health insurance. But under ACA, they have to find their own coverage when they retire. So, I guess the House thinks the multiple attempts at repealing Obamacare so they can keep their preferred health insurance down the road when they retire is more important than working on all the other bills on their docket. And they get campaign material.
Yup! My opinion has gotten lower. Who knew it could go that low.
