Sorry, I know it’s frustrating to wait when all your friends are talking about how big their refund is. But don’t worry, the IRS won’t run out of money to fund your refund if you can’t file for another week or two.
Employers don’t have to have W-2s out until January 31st. The same goes for those issuing 1099s. And you have to give them time to get to you. In fact, if you don’t get a W-2, the IRS expects you to wait until February 14th before taking action.
So no, I can’t use your last paystub to file your return. First, it’s illegal. Secondly, the paystub may not have all the info I need. Nor can I do a return based on your insistence that everything is the same as last year. Believe me, it never is. I need this year’s numbers.
Enjoy our beautiful weather and stop worrying about your taxes. Believe me; I would be soaking up the sun instead of doing taxes if I could.
